Text Box: BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETINGS

A Board of 5 Directors, elected by the voters in the District, manages and controls all of the affairs of the MUD under the guidance and supervision of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The Board establishes policies and lawfully enforceable ordinances in the interest of its residents and utility customers. A MUD may adopt, enforce and collect all necessary charges, fees and taxes in order to provide and maintain district facilities and service.

 

The Board of Directors of the San Leon Municipal Utility District is a duly authorized government under the laws of the state of Texas.  Like all elected public officials, their eligibility for this office, their term, conduct and responsibilities are set by law.

In addition to the Board members, participants in the meetings include MUD staff management team, the District’s attorney and guests as may be appropriate to the agenda.

 

Prior to each meeting an agenda is established to identify issues and matters to be discussed and deliberated.  Any issue which effects water and sewer services, MUD taxes, MUD financial matters, utility related ordinances or policies and other matters pertinent to the District or its members can be placed on the agenda.

 

All records of Board meetings are public records and can be accessed by the public in accordance with Texas’ Open Records Act.  Contact the MUD for instructions on how to access those records.

 

While the meetings are open to the public and all voting and final decision-making is done in open meeting, certain matters are discussed by the Board and other attendees in closed session.  This is not done to “keep you in the dark”.  Board discussions often include staff performance reviews, disciplinary matters or other issues that involve individual privacy - thus they are conducted in private.  But remember, the records are still available under the Open Records Act.

Board meetings are regularly scheduled on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the MUD office.  Meetings are conducted in accordance with the Texas Open Meetings Act and Robert’s Rules of Order.
